Strategy: The Missing Ingredient

Strategy -> Execution -> Success

You’ve probably seen that before.

It’s a common statement seen on business and entrepreneurial blogs all across the Internet.

Yet, strategy is often missing when it comes to what most small businesses are actually executing on.  And execution of good strategy is often much harder than it appeared when the strategy was developed.

So, people get stuck.

We see this every day in the Infusionsoft community; small business owners trying to achieve the automated dream, but not quite getting there.

Sometimes the blame is put on Infusionsoft.  “It’s too hard.”  “It’s confusing.”  “The interface is terrible.”  “I can’t see the reports I want.”

But truthfully, I think those are all cop-outs, even if there is some truth in them.

Why?  Because others are somehow able to cut through all of that and make amazing things happen.  We do it on a daily basis for our clients.

Here’s the key

The key to success with Infusionsoft (or any other marketing platform for that matter) is to forget about the software and focus on strategy first.

One of the reasons many Infusionsoft users hire us is for strategy development.  They’ve come to the following conclusions:

  • Writing good landing page & email copy is near impossible without having a strategy first
  • Setting up a campaign in Infusionsoft without a strategy is like trying to build a building with random pieces of Legos, Lincoln Logs, and Tinker Toys.  You may end up with a structure, but it’s not stable and it doesn’t work quite right.
  • Getting results out of a lead generation campaign is near impossible if you haven’t developed a good strategy first.  Just throwing up a good lead magnet doesn’t necessarily get results.
  • Sales campaigns fall flat on their faces when strategy is weak.

But all of this is easily corrected when a solid strategy is present.

So, what is strategy?

Strategy is the method you use to get a person (client, prospect, website visitor) from their current state to the next state.

When created correctly, the strategy is your map.  If you tried to get to an unknown destination by car, and you didn’t have a map, you’d get lost and not end up where you want to go.  That’s what marketing automation without a strategy is like.

But when your strategy is clear, the map tells you every turn you need to make, the direction you need to go, and how to get there.

When you hop into Infusionsoft with a clear strategy, implementation is easy.  Campaigns get launched quickly.  And results are inevitable.
